I want to break the entire language
into little pieces
so the edges of these letters
will stop cutting her

ReplyDeleteI just saw this on tumblr and I have to say that it's absolutely beautiful.
ReplyDeleteSo short, but so beautiful. I don't know if it's because of the fact that I can relate wholeheartedly, but I really love this.
ReplyDeleteAysha.. It's amazing how you've captured so much emotion and history in such a short little poem. Powerful. Love it.

powerful and so deftly put. i feel the weight of this poem in my heart and i want to thank you for sharing this.
ReplyDeleteThis is so beautiful it made me cry with all the memories of language oppression it brought up.
ReplyDeleteEven though I haven't experienced the oppressive side of the standard language myself (I'm no native english speaker, but I am a native speaker of the language most commonly spoken in my home country). I really get what you are trying to say. It's so poetic and beautiful in its simplicity. I've never seen this phrased better.
